I marvel at how quickly someone can sum up their thoughts into a 1000 word article that neatly answers why the Orlando shootings happened, how the crime should be defined, or even what facts we know and how to assimilate them. I’ve read dozens of such articles throughout yesterday and nearly all night.
How do we even begin to make sense of 50 dead? Dozens more wounded? Is it the guns? Religion? Politics?
What are the answers? How should we respond? What can we do?
I’ve started and rewrote this blog post at least a dozen times. I’ve tried to conjure up answers to share with my own children and hopefully be able to give us some ways to process this with our families. Our ability to frame these tragedies and share this news with the next generation is pivotal.

But after hours of insomnia attempting to write something comforting, I have but one conclusion.
I am without any summation, answer, or explanation. Today, I mourn.
