Our Valentine’s Day was just the best ever as we were the happy recipient of gratitude on behalf of so many Gold Star wives and civilian loved ones who joyfully received our bouquets this weekend! As messages like the following came in through emails and over social media, we couldn’t help but think of each of you who helped by participating through prayer, purchases, and donations.
YOU really made me proud to be a part of this community of grateful patriots. Parents, friends, and neighbors in a selfless effort to give thanks for the sacrifice so many Gold Star families continue to live with every day. What an incredible group you all are to do life alongside with. I wanted to share with you what so many families said so that you could get in on the gratitude you helped bring about.
From some of our Gold Star Wives:
Thank you so much for the Valentine’s Day wishes and flower bouquet. I am deeply touched by your thoughtfulness and kindness.
Sincerely, Carmelita Johnson Gold Star Wife
Michele Nelson – Husband: Jeremy Nelson – Our hero died April 2012 in the line of duty over seas while we were stationed at Osan AB in South Korea.
I was so surprised to receive your American sweetheart flowers today! This is my first Valentine’s gift since my husband died three years ago. Thank you so much for selflessly doing so much for our family! You are truly a blessing to have found upon this journey.
On another note, I hadn’t yet found your page to say thank you for the Christmas gifts. My kids loved their gifts but even more they treasure the fact that someone who had never met them loved them enough to send them something so sweet. Thank you again. Michele Nelson
Marcia DuPont – These are the first flowers I have received since my Love’s funeral. I bought some a couple years ago and I mostly plant and harvest out of my yard. What an unexpected surprise, THANKS again to all responsible. Feeling loved.
Misti Williamson – I just want to say thank you for the flowers. How thoughtful of you all. I saw the box but wasn’t sure what was in it. Yesterday was a horrible day for us and I cried so many times because I wish my son’s dad was here to see him grow and mature. Little gifts and surprises like this mean more than I could ever express.
Thank you for remembering and honoring him.
Misti’s words about her sweetheart Trevor: Trevor loved serving his country. He wanted to make the world a better place for his children. He was such an amazing and loving father. We wish everyday that he were here to take his children hunting and teach them the ways of the land, like he always said. We miss him immensely.
From some of our Civilians:
One of my dearest friends and board members bought the bouquet for another sweet friend Marsha.
Marsha Truett posted on social media: “Thank you Yannotta Family. This family is one of my many Blessings.”
Jackie Richard – Wife and mother – “My heart is full. My husband placed this thoughtfully on my vanity. Proud to be an American and thankful for the sacrifice give by so many. Hoping the woman who received the identical bouquet feels appreciated and loved today.”
Sally Prissert – Wife and mom of four – “Dearest Rebacks, your gorgeous paper flowers brightened Oma’s (grandmother) day! We hope they brought light to many gold star moms.”
Holly Pierce – Military wife and mom – “The girls and I received these beautifully handmade American Sweetheart bouquets in the mail from family in Florida. Amy Anderton and her amazing family sent us these for Valentine’s Day to remind us that as a military family, we are loved, appreciated, and prayed for. The most amazing part of all of this is that for each bouquet purchased, a bouquet is also sent to a Gold Star Mama, Wife, or Daughter. Amy, I know you had no clue, but I have a dear friend who is a Gold Star Mama. This touched my heart more than anything I’ve ever received because I am daily reminded through that sweet mama to cherish my soldier. She has been a bright light in my life for almost six years. Through her pain, I gained a different perspective of being an army wife and friend. I know to treasure the days, both good and bad. I know to pack up and go wherever, whenever as long as we can all be together. I know to treasure each email, each phone call, each “see ya soon”. All because a Gold Star Mama showed me grace and gave me a friendship deep in faith, hope, and love. Thank you, Amy. Thank you for giving to those mamas, wives, and daughters. And for giving to my girls and myself a reminder of why we stand by our soldier.”
Then there were sweet messages and texts coming in from all across the country like this:
SO thank you again so very much for participating in our American Sweetheart Project. You all made me so very grateful to be an American and proud to call you friends this Valentine’s Day…and that’s just the best Valentine ever.
