“This is my commandment, that you love one another. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” – John 15:12-13

Yolanda & Wrenita, Two of our Gold Star Mothers that I met over a year ago in Orlando. Beautiful inside and out.
Every time I see a Gold Star family member, I am reminded of this verse. Our soldiers in our armed forces are all volunteers. They haven’t been drafted, they choose to go bring the fight to the enemies of our country like ISIS, that we may stem the dangers on our own shores.
As I collect the photos and memories of our American Gold Star Mother’s Day Weekend to share with you all that your prayers and donations helped us accomplish, I wanted to reflect on this verse and remind myself and all of us really– that a soldier is always someone’s son. Someone’s brother/sister. Husband/wife. Uncle/aunt. Best friend. And likely they died on the battlefield NOT because they hated the enemy in front of them, but because they loved all those they left behind.
They laid down their life because of love.

And THAT is why I believe that honoring the fallen and those that have sacrificed so much on our behalf is so crucial. Thank you again, every one of you who contributed, for believing with me that America’s Gold Star families are worth every bit of honor we can bestow.
