Kemper Clara was our fourth child in a line of all girls.
The year she was conceived, David was competing in the Ironman World Championships.
We were also quite a fan of a triathlete named Hunter Kemper. He was a phenomenal athlete with a strong faith and a reputation of kindness and steadfastness. I was thinking on these things one afternoon and decided that boy or girl, this baby’s name would be Kemper.
When we discovered that she was a GIRL, we decided on the middle name Clara in honor of David’s maternal grandmother Clara Eihausen.
Kemper was one of my toughest pregnancies. She could kick me so hard I’d drop to my knees. A solid athlete from the get go- her name actually means “Champion with a clear vision.”
She has been just that since she could walk.
She completed her first race- a four miler with her Uncle Greg (2 time Olympic triathlete) when she was only four years old!
Her continued desire to compete is completely inspiring and I have seen her push harder and faster every year. She is definitely fulfilling her name’s purpose!
You can read more about Kemper and the parenting lessons we’ve learned raising such an incredible young woman in chapter four of my book Please God Don’t Let Me Screw This Up: Hope & Help From a Mom of Fifteen.
