Selling Skin by Bliss Reback

Posted by Bliss Reback on November 24, 2014.
.

BringBackOurGirlsSo, last week everyone was all abuzz about Kim Kardashian’s now infamous photo-shoot for Paper Magazine “Break the Internet.”

This is frustrating to me for so many reasons.

First, it is estimated that there are 12.3 million sex slaves worldwide. These women are forced to be sexual objects, and it infuriates me that celebrities and other high profile figures who are blessed with security (a home, an opportunity for an education, a family)  and ability to be anything BUT a sexual object choose to objectify themselves when millions of women have no other option.

Second, what sort of message is this presenting to young girls everywhere?! That you have to post titillating images of yourself to be “popular,” to have everyone like you? To be famous? These young girls are being taught that beauty and being sexy is all that matters.

I’ll tell you what’s sexy…

Smart is sexy.

Bravery, ambition, humor, artistry… These are sexy!

Everyone is born with an inner genius. Girls, don’t allow yourself to think that you have to be perfect inside or outside, and have a body like so and so to be beautiful. Beautiful is personality. Beauty is so much more than skin.

God willing we’ll all be given the gift of old age.  But one thing that never ages or fades is the person you are inside. One of my favorite authors is Roald Dahl, and I love this quote-

Roald Dahl

But beyond the issue of teenage girls, and how these pictures tell us we should be, there is an even larger monster that is growing. Young men are growing up thinking that this is acceptable. That it’s “no big deal” if a girl has nude pics go viral around the school. Why should they stand up for her? Plenty of celebrities do it willingly.

The argument could even be made that when women objectify themselves, they only further drive the market to literally put more women in chains…more women who will be enslaved by the sex trafficking mongrels.

What if instead boys were raised being taught to respect a girl, a girl’s body, to treat her like the Queen she is?

THERE WOULD BE NO SEX TRADE.

NO PROSTITUTES.

NO PORN.

BECAUSE THERE WOULD BE NO MARKET. Teenage girls wouldn’t feel the need to dress risqué or pose suggestively.

Where are the young men that smash the jerk’s phone before he can show all the nudie pictures of his girlfriend to the guys in the locker room?  Where are the protectors?  Where is the respect?

Women are more than just a body. More than just a lump of flesh. We have a mind, we have a soul. We are – each of us – individuals. It’s degrading to reduce yourself to simply selling your skin for publicity. It’s degrading to all of us. It hurts all of us.

Blissy, I LOVE this article…so well spoken and straight from the mouth of God, who adores each of His children. I got a picture of “Joan of Arc” in my mind as I was reading this…seeing you fighting battles for all those women who have no voice. Be blessed, dear girl, and let the Lord lead you down paths and into strengths you’ve never known before!

I think you’ve found your calling–encouraging young girls to be more than what they see around them. I love this!

Great post, Bliss! You are wise beyond your years and ever since I met you back when I think you were 10, I was always so impressed by your maturity. Please continue encouraging young girls and being an amazing role model to them! Really proud of you!
