For Christ himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in his own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us. Ephesians 2:14 MSG
We need peace. Peace from the crazy world we are living in when inĀ one months time we have had 49 killed by a terrorist in Orlando, a racial upheaval, and a country torn apart by social issues and racial issues and political issues and that’s just the craziness out there.
That doesn’t include the craziness in our own families. In our marriages, with our children, our in-laws, our neighbors.
But this verse, in Ephesians 2:14, reminds us who is the One who can bring peace. Unite the most unlikely of peoples. And break down walls of hostility that separate us.
Next week I’ll be hosting a group of my brothers and sisters in Christ who truly want to have open dialogue about the racial tensions and divides in our country. We’ll be praying that the Lord, who has already made a way for reconciliation through the brokenness of His Son Jesus, will give us wisdom and love and a way to truly help mend broken hearts and build stronger communities. I am asking all of you to consider doing something similar…a warm meal, some co-workers, friends, neighbors, and church families… Come together to ask, pray and believe that the Lord who has broken down powerful strongholds and wrought great works of love will work again in the hearts and minds of His people to make a difference in this amazing country of ours. It may be one small step, but if we all begin to take some small steps I think we would be amazed at how far down the road we could go.
