“Mission accomplished,” said Daly Kay with bold assurance the morning after her Honor Flight trip. Daly Kay and Ryli had just returned from escorting their two veterans to Washington, DC to visit the WWII Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery. After spending 17 hours side by side with their veterans, Daly Kay declared her entire goal for going had been reached.
“What are you TALKING ABOUT?” I asked her…I was completely confused. But then she began to explain…
Her veteran, like so many of our greatest generation, had become heartbroken. He had fought the good fight, worked hard his whole life, and felt that the country he had been given and was willing to die for had somehow morphed into an entity hardly recognizable. Daly Kay had spent the better part of her day with him encouraging him that better and brighter days were ahead for his beloved nation.
By the end of the day with a twinkle in his eye, the veteran looked into hers and said, “I believe you.”
