It’s not the Fourth of July. That’s just a date.
It’s Independence Day.
The Declaration of Independence was signed by 56 men who swore their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor that they and their progeny would no longer be under the tyranny of British rule. They risked everything that you and I could have the opportunity to live in freedom. And since that day, over 1.5 MILLION men and women have given their lives believing that this country was worth dying for.
You may be inclined to go to the beach today. I hope you do.
You may be at a baseball game.
You and your family might gather to enjoy a cookout and some beer. Good for you.
But please remember, that on this date, in 1776, 56 men signed a piece of paper willing to risk everything they held dear, becoming traitors to a crown of tyranny…
On this date, the whisper of freedom that sailed across the ocean on the Mayflower in 1620, became a roar that was heard around the world.
The Lord in His sovereignty saw fit to bless this nation with a foundation of prayer…and I believe it is the prayers of those founding fathers that still upholds our country even through the perilous times we face.
I hope with all my heart that today we ALL stop before getting out on the beach, before going into the game, before chowing down some hamburgers off the grill, and give thanks to God Almighty for the incredible blessing of being born under the banner of Old Glory. Give thanks for those 1.5 million men and women who died that we may have the free nation we live in, and pray for our troops who still fight tyranny, oppression, and a savage enemy.
And please…Don’t wish people a Happy Fourth Of July….SAY Happy Independence Day. And always remember that our independence was bought with the blood of well over a million patriots…
So let’s honor that sacrifice by taking the opportunities that our freedom presents us with and MAKE THE BEST AND MOST OF EVERY DAY. Especially TODAY.
