As a blog about parenting, I wanted to remind you of one of the most important responsibilities we have as citizens of this great country and as parents…
Praying for our country.
This weekend, we are celebrating in the beautiful weather, enjoying fine family time, and some good food. In the course of the past week, I have seen people wearing the red, white and blue, and saying, “Happy Fourth!” to one another.
Happy Fourth? Are we celebrating just another day in the calendar?
Independence Day. A day where many of our nation’s Founding Father’s chose to pledge their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor that we would have freedom from tyranny. They did this for our opportunity to succeed and advance the cause of liberty. It is on this day they placed their names and lives on the line, their family’s well being and safety, and risked everything for the benefit of future generations they would never meet this side of Heaven. It is not just another day on the calendar. It is the day we must stop and give thanks to our God who bought us freedom from our sins on the cross, and give thanks and honor for those who went centuries before us, enduring untold loss and hardship for our freedom today.
I urge you to pray together at your family gatherings for our nation. Our hard won freedom bought with the blood of those patriots in the Revolutionary War is now taken lightly as we esteem not the things they fought and died for. Pray for our nation to turn toward it’s Original Founding Father – the One who put it in the hearts and minds of the Pilgrims as they risked freezing winters, disease and starvation.
Pray for the veil to be lifted from the slumbering eyes of our citizens and that many would turn to Him.
Pray for an Awakening.
Pray for continued freedom and independence from government expansion and tyranny…for wisdom for our leaders…for those in our government who still don’t know Him.
Happy Independence Day!
