Tomorrow is Gold Star Mother’s Day. A day in our nation where we should all stop and give thanks for those precious women who raised up a child that would ultimately give their life in the service of our nation’s great military.
I have been intentional about reaching out to Gold Star families through my social media. I’m so very thankful that on at least one occasion it has granted me an incredible friendship and on hundreds of occasions the opportunity to speak gratitude and offer prayers.
They share their grief openly, and my family gets to pray silently for them and their loss.
They put up pictures of their son or daughter in uniform, and I can show my children the cost of their freedom.
They share birthdays, angelversaries, painful reminders and precious memories, and I wince and say thank you to them from the bottom of my heart in a whispered prayer and a quiet vow to not give up the fight in my own life, my own family.
Their loss is incomprehensible. To have raised a child so selfless who would serve and then to lose them to such tragedy is beyond what I can even fathom as a mother. But today, in your prayers, around your dinner tables, at your churches and as you kiss your children goodnight…tell the Lord how grateful you are to be living such freedom at the cost of so many heartbreaks and sacrifices. Explain this to your children. And vow to live a life worthy of the price they have paid.
