God told Abram: “Leave your country, your family, and your father’s home for a land that I will show you.
I’ll make you a great nation
and bless you.
I’ll make you famous;
you’ll be a blessing.
I’ll bless those who bless you;
those who curse you I’ll curse.
All the families of the Earth
will be blessed through you.
Genesis 12:1-3
Abraham wasn’t looking for God.
He wasn’t trying to discern his life-purpose.
He wasn’t trying to divine his destiny and impact.
Abraham wasn’t some spiritual guru. He was just a simple old guy way past his prime who God had suddenly contacted. Abraham wasn’t looking for adventure, or for any chances to step outside the comfort zone. But God showed up and revealed that He actually had a huge, mind-blowing plan for him. Something that would bless all the families of the world. And Abraham (who was known as just Abram back then) decided it was worth the risk to step out and see what God had up his sleeve. Abraham believed that God was going to do something great through little old him. Abram decided it was worth it to trust God with the journey.
Maybe today you’re here with really no idea why you are where you are. Just remember that the most important guy in all of Scripture (next to Jesus), the biggest figure of faith and the greatest example of a life of grace started out as a clueless but hopeful old guy with no idea what he was doing either. God can turn you into an amazing masterpiece with purpose and meaning. You’re never too young, you’re never too old. Don’t worry. God’s got you covered. Just trust Him, and decide to take that risk. Just BELIEVE God’s got it all figured out for you!
