Until about two weeks ago, I thought Ashley Madison was just a nice sounding name construed of two of the most popular first names over the last decade or so.
That is until my pastor mentioned it briefly in a series on sin and the supernatural…
And then a week later, all hell broke loose as nearly 37,000,000 people discovered that their spouses were actively seeking to have an affair. A group of hackers had warned the founders of Ashley Madison that if the site was not dismantled they would expose every single member and dump the information to the public.
Celebrities, military members, government leaders, do-gooders and the like were exposed as would-be adulterers and those who have actively had affairs.
I sat in disbelief with my mouth literally dropped open as I realized when the story broke that 37,000,000 people were about to discover that their husband or wife was looking to cheat on them. Then I thought of their children. Their friends. Those that looked up to and admired them and how they would be shocked at the discovery that someone they admired or loved so much had such a double life. I cried at the thought of it.
In the wake of the Ashley Madison leak we could truly have hundreds of millions of lives thrown over in a wake of sexual sin. Millions of marriages on the brink of destruction. A tsunami of divorce. Broken homes, families, lives.
Y’all, this is devastating. Please, please, please take the time to pray for these families. And those who are discovered in the throes of an affair are not relegated to only Ashley Madison users. There are hundreds of thousands more who are only a text message away from discovery. A “working lunch” away from succumbing to lust. A drink or a decision away from falling into destruction. Our country and it’s foundation – marriages– are at serious risk and under attack from every side.
“No temptation has overcome you except that which is common to mankind. And God is faithful, He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” 1 Cor. 10:13
No one is completely exempt from temptation. It is all common and available for any of us. And trust that there is a way out of it, even if the only answer is to RUN. As if from a burning building. Folks, flee it. Temptation is common, and God is faithful.
“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.” Mark 14:38
Lots of times when we find ourselves walking or crawling towards temptation, we stop our prayer life. Our guilty conscience condemns us for our thoughts which haven’t yet translated into sin, but surely without the guiding strength of running towards a living and loving savior we are doomed. Watch yourself. Pray. Even and especially as you struggle with temptation. Your greatest weapon is to continue to pray through it and get some accountability. Our flesh is weak. Period. We need the strength of our Loving God to help us stay on the path of purity in our marriages.
So pray for those who are caught or about to get caught from this latest data dump. Pray for their marriages and restoration. Healing. The very fabric of our families is what the tapestry of our country is based upon. The enemy knows this and they are under attack in ways we couldn’t have even dreamt of a decade ago. Pray. Fight in the heavenlies. Because we all know Who wins.
