All the Days of Her Life

I so desire to be the Proverbs 31 woman. I know I fall desperately short on an hourly basis, but I wanted to share with you parents the line that has stuck out to me more than any other in the entire chapter.

“She will do him good, and not evil, all the days of her life.” – Proverbs 31:12

Every day of her life, this woman of virtue will be doing her husband good. EVERY DAY. That is from her earliest days, as a child, she will be doing her future husband good. In adolescence, she will be thinking of and praying for him, reserving her heart for only this man.

She will be preparing herself to be a help meet to him in every way, with skill sets and an education. She will be considering what the future will hold for them in ministry, in vocation, and ahead of time, preparing to meet those challenges. This is a task that must be met with prayer and fasting on behalf of her parents…and grandparents too (if possible!).

As a young little girl, Ryli (our second oldest) was sure she and her husband would be missionaries. She studied different regions and cultures, to begin to prepare for a life in ministry with her future spouse. She wanted to know all she could to understand basic and even advanced healthcare, knowing that where they would be serving, indeed, medical help could be scarce. She took an interest in geography, and studied missionary stories over and over again. She was thinking of how she could do her future husband and family the most good, at least 15 years before they would ever need to know those things! That is what it looks like to “do him good and not evil all the days of her life.”
