But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light…
I Peter 2:9
Man, how I wish this generation of believers would remember this verse and begin to see themselves this way. We lament and bemoan the passing of the “Greatest Generation,” that generation that came home from WW2 and built up a nation and a legacy of American power and might. We talk about them as though they were the last best hope and as that generation passes away, we have been waning in our influence and power.
But the Word reminds us that WE are a chosen generation. As believers, WE are a holy nation in God’s sight. As believers, WE have been redeemed, our sins removed and forgiven, and WE are chosen by God!
The news and social media continues to bring a greater divide in our nation. Pitting whites and blacks against one another, poor against rich, women against men, and conservatives against the liberals. As Christians, we have to remember that unity is vital. We have to remember that our brother and sister in Christ is more than just the sum total of their color, political leaning, or social standing. They are our family. The one Christ died for. The one He sees just as spotless as He sees us. With all of our faults and differences, this body of believers is a holy nation in the sight of God, and we do indeed have the opportunity to live out an incredible legacy as a chosen generation.
Join me in prayer. We have less than a week before the election and November 9th we will wake up to the same neighbors, teachers, coaches and family members that we may have been vehemently opposing for the last several months. Remember that the Lord sees us as a holy nation, a priesthood of believers, and we have a very real and vital job to proclaim the praises of Him who brought us out of darkness and into his marvelous light. Pray for our nation. Pray for unity. And pray that this generation of believers would see themselves as chosen, holy and as God’s own special people created to live out an incredible purpose in these days.
