“When he came back to his disciples, he found them sound asleep. He said to Peter, “Can’t you stick it out with me a single hour? Stay alert; be in prayer so you don’t wander into temptation without even knowing you’re in danger. There is a part of you that is eager, ready for anything in God. But there’s another part that’s as lazy as an old dog sleeping by the fire.”Matthew 26:41
We may feel helpless in this election, but no matter which party we belong to, we all have an obligation to pray.
I know I am guilty of being lazy in my prayer life. And sometimes, it’s not laziness as much as it is sheer exhaustion from the craziness. But no matter how busy our lives are or how tired we may be, let’s stay alert and be in prayer for our nation. This election is only 21 days away.
Whenever we are tempted to just wag our tongues in frustration or disgust, pray.
When the news reports another salacious detail, pray. (that alone should give plenty of opportunity!)
In the car driving? Pray.
Checking the mail? Pray.
How about a fun game – every time you’re with the kids in the car and see an American flag? Pray!
Let’s keep doing what we can to make a difference in the direction of this country in our lives and on our knees because He hears!
Remind us to pray throughout the day for our nation. Remind us when we see the flag, when we hear the news, as we begin to feel frustrated and incapable of action. Remind us who You are and how You are always working. Lord I pray you would awaken our tired hearts and keep us pressing in with prayer for this great nation.
In Jesus’ name…Amen.
